Hello!
My name is Serena Smith and I live in western Kansas. I love
anything and everything that involves sewing and fabric! My
desire to sew started small and grew into something I love doing
every single day!
As a young girl, my first attempt at sewing came from my
Grandmother. When I would visit her, a bag of quilt scraps with
a needle and thread was always available. I would spend hours
hand stitching various shaped scraps together. This grew into
designing and stitching doll clothes. As time flew by I would be
found clipping pictures from magazines and creating various
outfits for my dolls.
At age 16, I began working in a fabric store. Not only did the store sell fabric, notions and sewing machines, but also specialized in custom sewing. I was able to learn many things about the fabric and sewing machine industry. The custom sewing varied from simple alterations of pants and jackets to altering and making formal dresses and bridal gowns.
A year later, I was able to purchase my first embroidery/sewing
machine - a Bernina artista 180e. I fell in love with machine
embroidery. My addiction grew by adding digitizing computer
software and more machines. Now I could design, stitch and
embellish whatever idea was swirling in my head. I was
delighted!!
In February 2002, I began teaching sewing and embroidery
classes. I discovered another area where I could create and
design projects and share my love of sewing and embroidery with
others. My classes consisted of basic sewing, quilting,
embroidery and computer software techniques. Showing others the
possibilities that can be attained through designing, quilting
and embroidery is very rewarding!
So in February 2006, I started
my website. My desire
is to provide fellow stitchers with quality fabric, notions,
embroidery supplies and helpful patterns and books. Not only do
we seamstresses need the tools to create projects, but also
inspiration. You'll find helpful tips and ideas with project
photos to keep your mind flying with possibilities.
I am so thankful for the talent of designing, sewing and
teaching that God has given me. Thankfully, God has also given
me the support of my loving family, who continue to give me
their opinion - whether good or bad. Thank you to those who
taught me many techniques along the way And a special thank you
to those ladies who sat through my first few classes when I was
still learning the art of teaching. Because of the
encouragement and inspiration I received, I can now pass that
knowledge on to others.
