A last minute trip to Houston, giveaway and Latte Quilt Online Class!

Whew! The last week has been a blur of activities! Joanna, my friend from Colorado and I decided to make a last minute trip to Houston to attend Quilt Market. Which we did and had a wonderful time! There's always soooo much to see that's new and exciting!

Plus I always gain a ton of ideas for projects to stitch and other fun things to do! Seeing all those wonderful booths just makes me want to just come straight home and start sewing! I've got some fun things to share with you regarding quilt market, including seeing Bernina's brand new 830 sewing/embroidery machine! Which that wonderful machine with the JUMBO hoop is most definitely at the top of my "got-to-have" list!

I'm still in the process of catching up on email and answering those I've received from the past week, so if you haven't heard from me yet, you will be soon!

Oh and that wonderful Olfa rotary cutter giveaway - the winner is Sue! Congratulations! You will enjoy this new rotary cutter; it's breeze to change blades! If you didn't win, you can purchase your very own cutter here or put it on your Christmas wish list!

I'm skipping this week's giveaway, but another new and fun giveaway will be posted on Monday, so don't miss it! Plus I brought some wonderful little treasures from Houston that are just waiting to find their way into your home!

For those of you who have heard little tid bits about an online Latte Quilt class starting in 2009 - yes, it's true! Starting in January/February 2009, I will be teaching an online class to stitch the Latte Quilt. You can sign-up for more information as it becomes available here.

Monday Giveaway: Olfa Quick Changing Rotary Cutter!

Congratulations to Deborah for winning last week's giveaway!

If you struggle with changing your rotary cutting blade, then be sure to take a peek at this new rotary cutter from Olfa!

Olfa has designed this right and left handed rotary cutter so that changing the blade is as easy as breathing! The Quick Change Rotary Cutter has an easy blade change with just a single click. No more assembly with a washer and a nut. Just slide the locking mechanism and the blade immediately releases. How easy is that?!?!

Rotary cutters are an invaluable tool to have for any stitcher, quilter or crafter! It's basically a cutting blade that will slice through fabric, paper and batting (your finger too if you aren't careful!:)) much easier and faster than using a pair of scissors!

I know what you are thinking, "If I already have one rotary cutter, why do I need another one?" Read here to find out several reasons why! Rotary cutters are sharp and can be dangerous, so pick up some safety tips here. Trust me on this...once you have injured yourself with a rotary cutter, you learn to be very careful! :)

If you didn't win this giveaway and would still like a Quick Change Rotary Cutter, you can purchase one here.

Monday Giveaway: Clover White Marking Pen

Congratulations to sewbig for winning last week's giveaway!

Markers are an invaluable tool to any stitcher or quilter, no matter what project on which you are working! You need a marker or pen that creates a clear line or mark on your fabric, but yet will disappear when you are finished with it. For dark fabrics my favorite marking tool is the Fine White Marking Pen by Clover!

The Clover Fine White Marking Pen will easily replace all of your other marking tools. This pen is an ink based pen, so it never needs sharpening, and it won't disappear if you have to wait a while to finish your project. It will easily disappear with a swipe of your iron or a spritz of water!

This pen is fantastic for marking on darker fabrics! It takes a few seconds for the marks to appear, so don't overmark. Overall it's a great marking tool!! You can see some of my other favorite marking tools here!

If you didn't win this giveaway and would still like a white Clover pen, you can purchase one here.

Monday Giveaway: Titanium Needles

Congratulations to stacysews for winning last week's green fabric giveaway!

Organ Titanium needles are standard high quality needles with a flat shank and a regular size eye for most home sewing, embroidery and quilting machines.

PD (Perfect Durability) or Titanium needles are the same great quality of Organ needles with the advantage of having a titanium nitride coating layered on the surface of the needle. With the titanium coating, these needles last up to five times longer than conventional chrome-plated needles. They are more wear resistant which reduces needle breakage, bending and distorting. This is very advantageous for the reliability and durability when stitching embroidery designs.

The titanium coating also strengthens the point of the needle. The needle is continuously going in and out of the fabric, dulling the needle point with each stitch which will cause needle wear and breakage. The strength of the needle has been reinforced while maintaining a perfect shape to provide greater wear resistance and durability.

Titanium needles are great for machine embroidery! Stop and really think about how many times the needle penetrates the fabric -- many times! For every stitch, the needle is being inserted into the fabric. So if your design has 20,000 stitches in it, the needle has gone through the fabric at least 20,000 times. This dulls your needle in a hurry! Titanium needles are a great help because they are stronger, last longer, less likely to break and keep your thread flowing smoothly through the eye of the needle!

Machines that fit Schmetz needles can also use Organ Titanium needles: Bernina, Brother, Elna, Husqvarna, Janome, Juki, Melco, Necchi, Baby Lock, New Home, Pfaff, Poem, Riccar, Simplicity, Singer, Viking, White and more...

This giveaway if for one package of needles which contains 10 titanium needles, size 80/12.

Note from Serena: I don't know how I could stitch all the embroidery designs I do without using titanium needles! I use titanium needles for all kinds of threads - embroidery, metallic, metallic sliver, cotton, monofilament and polyester - they last longer, are less likely to break and help to prevent the thread from breaking. They are a little more expensive than Schmetz needles, but with the longer stitching time that they can be used, it ends up saving me $$ and LOTS of frustration! Not only do they last longer for machine embroidery, but they also work great for piecing, quilting and any other type of sewing! Give them and try and you will discover you can't sew without titanium needles!

Monday Giveaway: Machingers quilting gloves

Congratulations to Jeanne for winning last week's giveaway of fat quarters!

Machingers by Quilter's Touch are the perfect gloves designed for machine quilters for machine quilting and piecing! Their soft, flexible fingertip grip gives full control with less resistance and drag on the fabric. Their form-fitting, seamless design allows you to keep your gloves on to clip and change threads, adjust fabrics and add or remove pins.

The breathable fabric helps to retain the skin's natural moisture. They also have an enhanced hand and wrist support for reduced fatigue and tension in your hands, arms, shoulders and neck.

These are available in four sizes: XS, S/M, M/L, XL. Specify the size you need when you leave a comment.

I absolutely LOVE these gloves for machine quilting. They help me grip and move the fabric as needed and their lightweight fabric still lets me clip threads and re-thread my machine if needed. I just can't machine quilt without them!

These binding clips are fantastic to use when tacking down the binding to any wall hanging or quilt. It is so much easier than having pins stuck in the fabric every few inches! I can't live without them!! :)

See some details on how I use my binding clips for my quilts here.

I'm giving away two packages with 12 clips in each to one winner.

If you didn't win this giveaway, you can purchase your own binding clips here.

Monday Giveaway: Miracle Markers

Use these white Miracle Markers made by Miracle Chalk to easily mark your fabrics. It makes great lines that are easily removed with the swipe of a steam iron. In addition it also stays on the fabric until removed with a steam iron for great visibility. Sharpen markers by drawing across sandpaper or shave with a knife. This package contains 3 markers.

I love using these markers for marking designs on my quilts! They mark an instant line and with just a touch of the iron, the marks disappear! Perfect for marking quilt designs without having to wash the completed quilt to remove the lines!

I have been looking for a marker to make a visible line for marking my quilts that I don't have to wash out with water. I discovered Miracle Markers, which can make a fine or thick line, depending on how the tip is sharpened. I used this marker to mark this quilt for quilting and it worked beautifully!

If you didn't win this giveaway, you can purchase your own Miracle Markers here.
