Back issues of Creative Expressions magazine

I've had requests for back issues of Creative Expressions by Jenny Haskins in the past couple of months. Those back issues are hard to get a hold of, but I have managed to find some brand new issues!

These issues will go fast and I only have a limited number of each one, so be sure to get yours before they all disappear. These are no longer being printed, so once they are gone, they are gone!

Creative Expressions issue 8
Creative Expressions issue 9
Creative Expressions issue 10
Creative Expressions issue 11
Creative Expressions issue 12 - If you are looking for The Color Purple: The Next Generation quilt directions, they are split into two issues - 12 and 13.
Creative Expressions issue 13
Creative Expressions issue 14

Creative Expressions issue 15
Creative Expressions issue 16

Creative Expressions special editions MarJen for Error and Simon's Folly are also out of print, but I do still have some issues of these two.

The MarJen for Error magazine has directions for the MarJen for Error quilt which I will be teaching an online class, starting in April. Plus it also has directions for the Beyond the Color Purple Quilt. This is a fantastic magazine to have; there are lots of embroidery ideas inside!

Simon's Folly includes an embroidery design cd with some of the designs needed to complete the quilt, Simon's Folly. It's another great issue with a fun quilt project to stitch!

Artist Laurel Burch dies at 61

In my blog reading this morning, I discovered that Laurel Burch, famous artist and fabric designer passed away this week.

Her work can be recognized with a glance, usually using bright, bold colors on a black background. Her designs such as cats, horses, jungle animals and others have been reproduced in quilting fabric, embroidery designs, t-shirts, scarfs, jewelry, coffee mugs and so much more!

Although I can't say I have absolutely fell in love with her fabrics and embroidery designs, there are some pieces which have captured my eye and I have stitched several of designs from a couple of design collections mirroring her design style.

You can read more from the Marin Independent Journal.

OESD Block Party April 19-23

OESD is once again having a block party weekend where all their downloadable individual designs and design packs are buy 1, get 1 free. This is a great way to stock up on designs and save lots of $$.

Check out OESD's new beta design search. It is a vast improvement over the old version. It is much easier to search for and find designs and the layout is much more intuitive. There are new advanced searching options too, like limiting search results to when the designs were created. That can be very helpful when searching for a certain design. They have also made a few changes to their New Packs page - another great improvement!

Martha Stewart & Sewing Endorsement

Joan from Lazy Girl Designs has a post about Martha Stewart's recent endorsement with SVP Worldwide. SVP Worldwide manufactures Singer, Viking and Pfaff sewing machines. Hopefully this will inspire more people to the sewing and quilting world.

Here is an excerpt from the SVP Worlwide press release:

"My mother taught me the basics of sewing at a young age and I have had
Singer sewing machines in my home since I was a girl. I used them to make many
of my clothes in high school and college and I even sewed my wedding dress,”
stated Martha Stewart. “Sewing is a wonderfully useful skill. It enables anyone
to create beautiful and functional projects or even enhance something as basic
as a paper gift bag. I’m delighted that sewing is enjoying a national
renaissance since I know very well the pride and pleasure that can be derived
from this rewarding pursuit."

Martha Stewart's website if full of sewing and craft ideas and projects. The projects vary from something as simple and basic as sewing on a button to more complex such as a quiet book or creating a footstool cover.
